Mary's Point Bird Sanctuary
Flocks of Sandpipers numbering in the hundreds of thousands nest along the Fundy coast. Every year in August the sandpipers begin to form large flocks in preparation for their annual migration. During low tide these large flocks feed on tiny mud shrimp on the flats exposed by the receeding water. During high tide the flocks rise and turn and wheel through the sky in unison. The sight is truly breathtaking, but nothing can prepare you for the sound of thousands of birds turning in midflight over your head. Truly an unforgetable experience and we are fortunate to have Mary's Point Bird Santuary just five minutes away, one of less than a dozen places that you can witness flocks this immense in the world.
